On Saturday 10th June, the children from Siddington C of E Primary School were invited by Down Ampney C of E Primary School and their PTA to join them in a Sponsored bike ride, cycling laps of The Old Airfield, Down Ampney by kind permission of Farmcare Trading Ltd. The Airfield and runway were built and used in WW2 to launch gliders to Arnhem. Children from Siddington joined Down Ampney, Meysey Hampton, Kempsford, Ampney Crucis and Rodmarton Primary Schools to raise funds for their own school PTA’s.

With the help of very generous sponsorships kindly donated by Hills Quarry Products Ltd, CIA Fire and Security, Farmcare Trading Ltd and Immobilise, each child was given a commemorative t-shirt and certificate to mark the event, whilst refreshments for all those taking part were kindly provided by Tesco.

Children from each year group cycled or scooted for an hour around the tracks provided, the longest lap being 1100m, with a pit stop out on course to keep the children refreshed and hydrated in the heat. The track was marked with cones kindly lent to Down Ampney PTA from Cotswold Driving Experiences, providing the children with a fabulous safe place to ride. We were also lucky enough to be visited by Zee and Sue (local PCSO’s) who spoke with the children about cycling safety, walked the course and met with lots of parents and families whilst with us. Families supported the children around the course as they rode past, and a fantastic day was had by all.
